From humble beginnings

Established in 1940 as a humble general grocery store, this small corner building has undergone several transformations, bearing different names and owners throughout the years, until it became known as Alice's Market. In the 1970s, our family assumed ownership and breathed new life into the establishment naming it Waiola Store "Wai"- meaning water and "Ola" meaning life. Translation in Hawaiian: The water of life

With a spirit of curiosity and a desire to embrace local traditions, we soon found ourselves captivated by the enchanting local classic treat known as shave ice. With eager hearts, we set out to perfect our craft, starting with just five flavors: strawberry, banana, blue vanilla, cherry, and grape.

Building Community

As the word spread and our shave ice creations became popular, we knew we had to evolve alongside the growing demand. We dedicated ourselves to perfecting our shave ice, tirelessly striving to make it the softest, most heavenly ice on the entire island. And to elevate the experience even further, we began offering delightful toppings like mochi balls, scoops of creamy ice cream, and drizzles of sweetened condensed milk. Every creation was a labor of love, a testament to our commitment to bringing Aloha to each customer and the community.

Second Location!!

In 2013, a new chapter unfolded for Waiola Shave Ice when we proudly opened our second location on 3113 Mokihana Street in Kapahulu. It was an incredible milestone for our family, as it brought us closer to our community and allowed us to touch the lives of even more people with our frozen delights.

Gaining Popularity

Since then, we've been fortunate enough to be featured in numerous television shows like the Hawaii 5-0 Series, magazines, articles, and social media platforms. The spotlight has shone on us, but our true success lies in the support and love we receive from our customers and community.
